Where's the Good Stuff this week?
Friday 11/07/25 roundup of what I've discovered on Substack
‘Good Stuff’ = blog posts I’ve read this week that inspired, educated, entertained, or moved me.
Which for a Free Range Priest, means reading more amazing, inspiring things about God, the church, the universe, and running.
Here’s this week’s roundup:
God stuff
- Christianity is neither a self-improvement program nor a social justice mission. It’s falling into the hands of the living God.That’s weird. And I love it.
‘Love and Death’ by
. ‘If God created the universe, meaning originates beyond us. We are not merely dust. We are divinely animated dust’.
Church stuff
‘When the Wrong People Come to Church’ by
. I’ve always struggled with the Episcopal Church’s message ‘all our welcome’, because I haven’t experienced that to be true. It’s hard to admit it - but each of us has trouble welcoming some ‘kind’ of person….‘Why Lifeless Rituals Are Better Than None’ by
. ‘Humans have a complex relationship with rituals; like friends that move away, sometimes it seems like we only come to appreciate them once we miss them’.
Other stuff
‘Things Worth Remembering: Scooby-Doo and the American Ethos’ by Liel Leibovitz. What Scooby-doo gets right about America that few other cultural touchstones do.
‘Hearing Your Stories: Craig Lewis’, by
and . I love how Terrell shares stories of runners (and not just because he featured me once!). This is an amazing story about how a life-threatening illness led to a new commitment to running - and sharing it with others.
What I wrote this week:
‘The first step for ‘cage free’ ministry.’ How to think outside the denominational box when you’re still in the denominational box.
‘The world IS coming to an end.’ Advent with Trexo: a gym for your soul.
And finally…
At Free Range Priest, we’re reimagining ministry in the digital age.
Subscribe to any (or all!) of these publications to be part of innovative ministry for the future of church.
