Where's the Good Stuff this week?
Friday roundup of what I'm reading on Substack
I love talking about letting go of the ‘stuff’ of ministry - what’s holding us back from the joy of church. And getting to the ‘Good Stuff’ - sharing the love of God, finding beauty and miracles everywhere, living in hope and peace.
I find so much Good Stuff on Substack - it’s one reason I love this platform. I feel so connected to the best of church, ministry, and Christian faith. Plus so much creativity, beauty, humor and wonder in general.
Of course I can’t help sharing!
Here’s what I’ve found this week:
God stuff
I do my own sermon workshop for subscribers, and I love to read what others are preaching about, or considering from Scripture this week:
- is chronicling his walk on the Camino de Santiago, and I can’t wait for his beautiful and hilarious insights and photos every day.
- reminds us that we are the risen body of Christ: If You Believe He’s Risen, Indeed, You Better Be Celebrating Constant Communion.
I love this reflection from
: ‘Why I Didn’t Walk Away’, about reconstructing, rather than deconstructing faith.
I mostly read on Substack, but I love a few video series, too, including:
- - because how can you not love a preacher with a parrot?! - The Secret to Unstealable Joy.
A project I’m really proud to be part of:
by . I particularly love Psalm 105 this week.
Church stuff
Technically about this week’s Gospel story, but literally called ‘The Church Before The Church’ -
writes about how important food is to our faith. This article wasn’t written this week, but I read it this week, about Eighth Day Books in Wichita, KS. I lived in Wichita for 4 years and I loved this bookstore! Thank you
for sharing its unique story in ‘Your Vocation Is Not Cancelled’, and reminding me how our mutual friend introduced it to me many years ago.I literally could not do my work without
and . This week I loved ‘Belief in an Afterlife is Increasing in the United States.’
Other stuff
‘Your Future Self Is Trying To Get Through, But You Keep Defaulting to Beige’ - I read it just for the fascinating title, and was not disappointed! It’s about how change occurs not from one big shift, but from tiny decisions we make every day.
I love
’s writing on church and God, but my favorite from him this week is ‘Aspiring to Be Less of a Jerk Online’.
I wrote a couple things, too!
I’m devoting my blog for the rest of the year to ‘36 Views of the Future of Church’
And still working on a ‘gym for your soul’.
Finally…
I can’t help myself, I found this video hilarious - which is sort of the point of the post:
