Trexo Workout/Rule of Life
Find rhythm, consistency, and direction for your life with God.
Every serious athlete has a training plan.
Amidst the social and cultural ruins of a collapsing Roman Empire, Saint Benedict of Nursia established a revolutionary document known as the Rule of Saint Benedict, which sought to create a stable community through a balanced integration of prayer and work, encapsulated in the maxim ora et labora.
St. Benedict is known as the Father of the Rule of Life.
It’s a ‘rule’ in the sense of a guideline - the exercises and activities that bound our life and keep us focused on stretching our souls and becoming the people God has called us to be.
At Trexo, we call it a Workout.
A structural framework that provides rhythm, consistency, and direction for our life with God. Which is our whole life.
The Trexo Workout begins with the Gym Intake form.
Fill this out to get a customized spiritual training plan, and start the journey towards commitment to a Rule of Life (Workout).
The Purpose of a Trexo Workout
To keep us in a rhythm of prayer and practice for a specific period of time (‘I will say the Jesus Prayer 100 times a day during Lent’). It’s a form of commitment to practing the Christian faith - even when we don’t want to, or we’re tired or busy.
Because just like physical athletes, we know that endurance is built through the small actions we take every day, even if it doesn’t feel like we’re getting anywhere.
…and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.
Romans 5:4-5
the Trexo Workout focuses particularly on the Practices we do in the spiritual gym:
Daily Anchor:
Hearts Up!
Jesus Prayer
Bodily Prayer
Weekly Rhythm:
Sabbath
Eucharist
Seasonal Intensives:
Fasting
Vigil
The Practices are the things we do. The Workout is the pattern we follow.
The Workout is the formal commitment to when, where, and how we intend to participate in the Trexo Practices. Filled out and shared with the community.
The Workout is individual - and communal
St. Benedict reminds us:
no monk lives in isolation. Community is at the heart of life.
When we try to go it alone, we find that anything we believe in and choose, we call holy - and anything we dislike, we consider forbidden. This is self-deception.
At Trexo, we say it simply:
You cannot be Christian alone.
Jesus called disciples from the very beginning. We learn to follow Jesus by being in community with others - for encouragement, support, and yes, correction.
Your Workout is yours.
But you’re not building it alone. You’re building it to be accountable in community, and to hold others accountable.
Start with the Trexo Gym Intake form:
You were made for more.
