On Wednesdays, I workshop the sermon. Well, today it’s Thursday. But still…

Here’s the ‘Preaching Triangle’ process I’ve developed:

  • Intro: Brief story or concept about the sermon topic.

  • Scripture: One thing God is saying in this passage (just one! save other insights for other sermons…).

  • Situation: One thing going on in listeners’ lives (i.e. why should they care?).

  • Self: One thing I believe about this topic/passage (‘the preacher transformed’ - what is bringing me Good News here?).

  • Conclusion: Wrapping it all up (‘AMEN’ is NOT the last word of a sermon! If you have to say ‘amen’ when you really mean ‘I’m done talking now’, then you need a better ending…)

    All wrapped around one piece of Good News - a phrase of about six words that boils down the whole thing.
