The best time to follow Jesus was 2,000 years ago
The second best time is today

For they all saw him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.” (Mark 6:50)
And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, you of little faith?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a dead calm.(Matthew 8:26)
But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the synagogue leader, “Do not be afraid; only believe.” (Mark 5:36)
And so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people.” (Luke 5:10)
But he said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” (John 6:20)
“I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body and after that can do nothing more.(Luke 12:4)
But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Get up and do not be afraid.” (Matthew 17:7)
But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows. (Luke 12:7)
“Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. (Luke 12:32)
Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers and sisters to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”" (Matthew 28:10)
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.(John 14:27)

Good news indeed.
