On Wednesdays, I workshop the sermon. This week it’s Thursday, because that holiday weekend got me off schedule…
Here’s the ‘Preaching Triangle’ process I’ve developed:
Intro: Brief story or concept about the sermon topic.
Scripture: One thing God is saying in this passage (just one! save other insights for other sermons…).
Situation: One thing going on in listeners’ lives (i.e. why should they care?).
Self: One thing I believe about this topic/passage (‘the preacher transformed’ - what is bringing me Good News here?).
Conclusion: Wrapping it all up (‘AMEN’ is NOT the last word of a sermon! If you have to say ‘amen’ when you really mean ‘I’m done talking now’, then you need a better ending…)
All wrapped around one piece of Good News - a phrase of about six words that boils down the whole thing.
